“End User” explores the format and language of terms of service or end user agreements. Using the end user agreements of large tech companies in contrast with the international bill of human rights and the open source definition, “End User” creates a new procedurally generated terms of service document. Using Processing and the RiTa library, the work deconstructs each text into sentence fragments and then reconstructs and combines them to form the new document. “End User” is a reflection on the place/role of the individual in these large and inhuman documents. Drawing inspiration from Sandy Stone and the concept of the fiduciary subject, this work critically examines the role these hard to parse documents play in upholding technological spaces as inhuman while also exploring the ever more blurred line between nation and corporation.
