What is a Medicare audit?
A Medicare audit is the process by which the Medicare administrative contractor, and in Florida it’s First Coast Service Options, goes back to check on whether the claims of providers submitted meet all the requirements for payment.
Normally when you submit a Medicare claim, they pay it without asking any questions. So in an audit, what they do is go back and see whether all the claims they paid were actually payable, and should have been paid. If First Coast asks you for medical records in connection with a Medicare audit, be sure to provide them as carefully and completely as you can, because the results of your audit depend on your medical records.
